Newborn Parent Education and Support/Children with Sickle Cell Support

If you are the parent or caregiver of a newborn or child with sickle cell, we provide general education to help give your child “Hope for a better tomorrow”.

Public Education/ Public Awareness

We strive to make the community aware of sickle cell anemia, what causes the disease and how it can impact everyone regardless of age or race. We encourage the public to learn as much as they can about the disease; such as knowing the difference between sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait, and how sickle cell testing can detect the sickling gene. Also its important for those living with sickle cell and other related hemoglobin disorders to know their exact genotype of the disease so they can be properly treated by their medical team.

Our foundation reaches out to people of childbearing age (15-35) to seek sickle cell testing and educational information. There are several ways the community can obtain our educational information packets. They can be mailed, picked up at the local library in Spring Hill or found at the annual health fair expo.

Virtual Support Group

Our foundation offers online education, support and resources for sickle cell patients and their caregivers. Through live virtual sessions, patients are free to express their feelings and any personal issues they are having related to sickle cell disease. Sickle Cell patients often feel alone or misunderstood and being able to talk to others who are having similar problems or who may be able to better understand your problems can provide a tremendous amount of support. Patients can also share interest, concerns or problems, network and coping strategies with one another.
